Nigel Robertha joins D.C. United from Levski - Among club record deals

D.C. United are in the final stages of signing Curaçao national team player Nigel Robertha from Bulgarian side Levski. Levski confirmed on Tuesday that they are in the final stages of selling Robertha to the Major League Soccer side.

Update Mar. 25: D.C. United confirmed the transfer on Thursday. Robertha joins the club on a Targeted Allocation Money transfer and has signed a contract through 2023 with an option for 2024. "We have been monitoring Nigel over the past two seasons and we’ve been impressed with him in all phases of the game, particularly his ability to stretch the game vertically, press and counter-press, and score and manufacture all types of goals in every situation,” D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a club statement.

Robertha joined the Sofia-based club in 2019 and has managed 20 goals and nine assists in 45 games for the club. A product of the Feyenoord youth academy, Robertha has represented the Netherlands at the youth level but has since switched his allegiances to Curaçao. 

Robertha: 5th most expensive signing in D.C. United's history

Levski received €1 million for the 23-year-old forward plus a percentage of any future transfer. A fee in that category makes Robertha the fifth most expensive transfer in D.C. United's club history.
