Bayern keeping an eye on Manuel Akanji situation - BVB: No progress in contract talks
Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji Transfermarkt has learned from a source familiar with the situation. The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2022/23 season and BVB have been unable to make progress in contract talks. Akanji is understood to ask in the region of €8-12 million per season. Borussia Dortmund have recently signed Niklas Süle on a free transfer from Bayern. Süle will earn €8 million a season, plus €2 million in bonuses.
The Süle transfer to Dortmund has now left a significant hole in Bayern's backline. Furthermore, the Rekordmeister has struggled to find a suitable replacement on the market this summer. Target number one Andreas Christensen has all but agreed on a deal with Barcelona. Akanji is also interesting as he knows the league and speaks the language.
There are, however, some significant obstacles. Dortmund are in control this summer and his salary demands also seems to favour a move to the Premier League where Newcastle United have been suggested as a potential suitor.
